Breathwork

Breathwork is a relatively new term used to describe various breathing exercises in order to influence our physiological, psychological, and emotional states. It’s simply working on your breath – the way you breathe. This can be done anywhere, or anytime. Breathwork encompasses breath awareness, breath control, breath training, breath practice, and advanced breathing exercises. Think of breathwork as a simple way to control your mind, body, and emotions. By changing the way you breathe you directly impact your state of being.

Breathing

Breathing has a bidirectional relationship, your mood affects your breathing and your breathing affects your mood. Also, structurally, your ribs are shaped by your breathing and your breathing shapes your ribs. By changing your breathing mechanics, rate, volume, and inflow, you can directly impact your physiology, which in turn influences your psychology.

Your mind, your breath, and your emotional state are tools that can reshape your reality when used with intention. The brain doesn’t know the difference between imagination and experience. Your emotional state alters biochemistry. Intention influences identity and directs psychology. Breathing alters brainwave patterns, the body’s emotions, and subconscious access. Visualization changes neural circuits and shifts bioenergetics.

Breathing, the thing we mostly do unconsciously, has a profound impact on your life. When you combine it with conscious intention, you begin to harness its full potential

Anxiety, depression and fatigue

If you are experiencing anxiety, depression, and fatigue, with proper breathwork coaching and consistent practice over time, you can achieve long-lasting reductions in these symptoms, supported by recent meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials showing significant decreases in anxiety, depressive symptoms, and related stress that persist beyond immediate sessions.

For instance, incorporating breathwork into your daily routine—such as through structured programs lasting 8-12 weeks or more—can foster sustained improvements in mental health, energy levels, and overall well-being, as evidenced by analyses highlighting the benefits of interventions like pranayama or mind-body exercises involving regulated breathing.

Breathwork is simple, easily accessible, and promotes enduring change when practiced regularly, helping to build resilience against chronic fatigue by enhancing sleep quality and parasympathetic nervous system balance.

At its core, breathing optimizes the body’s essential „pumps”—circulation, gas exchange, movement, and waste elimination—to lay the ground for foundational health. This supports improved virility, sexual arousal readiness, muscle tone, energy efficiency, motor control, reduced stiffness, and flexible nervous system function.

Now here we can add the idea of filling out a score where people can see their results. Like Kristiana has. Nijmegen Score we can use for now.

athlete aspect

The biggest misconception sports coaches have is that breathing is something that can’t be trained or influenced. However, if you’re an athlete looking for an edge, do not overlook breathwork as a tool to be used, pre-match, during the match, or post-match. Although breathwork can be helpful to the general public, its benefits are especially valuable to athletes as it can provide a decisive advantage, in a setting where every detail of high-level competition matters. Is your competitor using breathwork to gain an advantage over you while you haven’t even considered it?
